While gazing upon my sister's numerous "Junie B. Jones" books, I noticed the colors and I was delirious because they were so bright. Then however I thought that they were so bright that htye fit in this season, except the checkers on the edges represent patterns and touches of the sort. Strange to find all of this from a 2nd graders frivolous reading book, however it caught my eye ad what could I say, I was inspired and obviously Etro, Zac Posen, Dolce and Gabanna, and CMV were to (most likely by something else...).

Oh and by the way I am in a marvelous mood so I really should write more but I need to get under a blanket immediately (I'm freeeeezing...). I can't say it enough times, but I am thrilled with andspeakingofpink.com , and I hope that anyone reading my blog will go there.

Well, I hope everyone survived black friday! I sure did and came out with two sweaters and a belt. However I pray for one who wasn't so lucky (the man who got trampled at Walmart...).

Also a loud congrats to Luella for her British Fashion Award win (refer back to earlier post on Luella), and Anna Wintour for an OBE, Most Excellent Honor of the British Empire.

This season is all about the SHINE and the glimmer! With patent leather galore, especially in colors sure to blind. You can either go way too over the top, or stay on page with this. Stay classy, and beware of hideous temptations.

Argh. It's raining out, but somehow it's quite endearing (when I'm inside!), because when i reach my house I feel safe. I don't why I enjoy that feeling but I do. Anyways...

I picked up several movies and books at the library today, among them Funny Face, and Dial M for Murder, which is very exciting!

This has got to be one of the most fantastic things in the world. A Karl Lagerfeld finger puppet! It's incredible, and if they made Anna Wintour, Gaultier and such I would buy the lot of them!

Oh and by the way as if Ugly Betty couldn't get any more fantastic, now Zac Posen will be a guest star! Ah TiVo time!

Although not entirely my scene, the Adidas House Party is coming up and is sure to be a showcase of urban wear, which is always exciting. To see a athletic wear company enter the fashion arena is very exciting which makes me happy to present this preview for the actual party. Here

I love the end "Celebrate Originality", that is definitely a quote that I will savor throughout this week. I adore people who celebrate difference, and defy boundaries, all the more of a reason to check out the House Party.

I must read Life of Pi now, I do hope it is a good book! =D

Hey guys! I'm here!! And today is my premier post for And Speaking of Pink , which I am working on right now. How can a three day week be so busy? I have alot of studying to do, as well as warming up for track which starts next week. However that does not mean by any means that my bloggin days at Fashion Girl are anywhere NEAR over! It's almost been a year since I've started this little blog of mine!

What I would like to know is why Lindsey Lohan seems to be on the cover of alot of magazines in the past few months! Craziness!

Well, I'm posting sooner than I thought because I felt the urge to run to my computer, open itunes and listen to Brigitte Bardot after seeing the new Miss Dior Cherie commercial. The girl commercial is so endearing, so harmless, yet so graceful,-similar to that of how I pictured Cosette in Les Miserables. And to think that that kind of charm can come from clothes is incredible and inspirational.

Bill Blass is saying it's farewells to fashion and is liquidating. After the misfortune of loosing Peter Som, Bill Blass has been getting the wrong kind of attention. I haven't been very passionate about any recent collections anyway, but still the message this send across is that all the fashion houses could easily become as fragile as Bill Blass.

I can't quite see why Madonna would ruin her relationship with Gucci by wearing a somewhat atrocious Louis Vuitton dress to a Gucci event!

A Stroke of Pink is just what I need!

So big news! I will start writing for the A Stroke of Pink blog starting on Monday so look out! But that certainly does not mean that I would leave my blog in the dark! Although my main priority will be ASOP, I will be sure to catch up and post a few times during the week. I will learn to manage my time better with this opportunity so who knows what I'll be able to get done in the right mind- set.

ASOP is an incredible website with big dreams and ambitions that I believe can happen. It is a site for girls aged 13-21 interested in fashion, which is pretty exciting! I will tell you more later- or you can look on the website for yourself! =D

Well I'm off to eat some pumpkin bread and then go ice skating- however maybe I'll fit in another post today!

Milk Duds, Rolos, and Licorice Oh My!

Between games of Free Rice, and homework I come to bring you another (short) post. I wore this today and I adore the skirt! I got it at H&M which was weird because it felt like something unique that I'd get at some second hand shop which was fantastic and the fit was perfecto. I just wore my yoga pants underneath and I was out. However it was FREEZING- and I realized I needed a sweater under my *peacoat*. Ahh yess. So that's about it for now! Happy (almost) holidays! Oh and play free rice! =D

The runners up Vena Cava should have no shame, because the intricate details, and marvelous craftmanship is exemplified in there most recent collection, and their contribution to the fashion industry is rather notable as well.

Seeing as Wang's designs and Vena Cava's differ in so many ways, it is easy to say that they are both winners. I know I am incredibly jealous of the talent it takes to put on a show that can impress the minds behind fashion in the CFDA.

Well, anyways, I saw the new Bond movie (among others that I've recently seen- I don't know why so many in the past 3 weeks) it was quite good, but really what I loved was the tuxedos. The classic cuts brought back images of the iconic penguin suits. Certainly not a movie aclaimed for it's fashion, my mind seemed to be concentrated on what they were wearing even when 007 barely made it out of the blazing, endless building in the dry heat of the desert.

Versace took the plunge and adorned China with a new subtitle, fashion show host. The show mimicked it's earlier Milan counterpart, rotating runway and all. However the show featured all Asian models. Those at Versace hope that the lust for luxury brands extends through this recession in Asia, and are expecting to earn some money off it.

Meanwhile... there was a Chocolate Fashion Show in New York, where seemingly everything is possible. Unlike immediate assumptions, walking chocolate bars were not highlighted, rather realistic costume garments were showcased.

October was a busy, busy month, and since more people have been informed about my blog lately, and I have had an urge for writing and a craving for my daily fashion news, I bring myself back to the blogosphere!

Peter Som just launched his childrens line, how exciting! I wish I could say "Oh I wish I could fit into that" when in reality the only thing stopping me from buying the things is well, the price. However I have a strong feeling that this collection will end up being a line for pristine toddlers, rather than a line for tweens desperate for a designer collection to fit. Also I would like to inform everyone that I am now fourteen years old. yay!

Store Cute (the sister store to website fredflare.com) opens in a mere 5 days! Sadly I won't be in New York until possibly November, and by then Topshop will have invaded too! What good timing.

Right now I feel like I need some colorful tights for this season, and since I barely had any last year... a trip to American Apparel is long overdue.

I was reading a very interesting article in the Wall Street Journal the other day about how high shoes seem to be getting, and how although painful most still fawn over them. My opinion on high heels is that they are marvelouss, but absolutely not for me, being an almost 14 (2 days!) year old girl. These heel-ess shoes are another example of insane vertically engineered shoes.

Leanne won project runway! I was quite excited about this, however I did think that Kenley put on quite a show despite her sassy attitude which made me think lowly of her. Korto's collection wasn't impressive, I thought it was a bit too simple and sloppy. I was sad to see Jerell go in the first part of the finale, because I thought that he had immense talent, but I am overall satisfied with Leanne's win.

oh my word. I am overwelmed with magazines and books involving fashion and swamped with schoolwork, how oh how will I manage to read everything. Exactly why I am taking advantage of my long weekend. Between bursts of shopping and whatnot with friend I am READING... a long weekend and I READ... I can't even explain how ridiculous it seems, but I'm enjoying it

Sorry for the inconvenient scattered posts, but really I don't have an excuse! So pardon me and I will be sure to attend to my blog a lot more, I am trying out this responsibility thing, and well, in part I must post on my blog (yay!). So school is great, enough about that, I have to deal with enough of it.

Taylor Momsen (Jenny on Gossip Girl) was looking gorgeous in Marchesa, however for a 15 year old I don't know. She is only a mere year older than me (yes I am turning 14 next month) and I don't anticipate this much of a drastic change in a year. However I cannot deny that she looks radiant in this, but isn't this the time when Peter Pan should enter and tell her to just be a kid? Or not?

I adored Moschino Cheap & Chic, bringing some glamour to the runway as always, and setting a more upbeat tone for Milan. The collection featured delicate prints however it had well constructed figures, with a playful attidude about them.

How could there be a Cavalli show without animal print and some sparkle, with that hint of elegance that makes you take another look out of awe. I was quite fond of the faces on the dresses and shirts, though not as impressed as most, however the collection as a whole was impeccable and different, along with being youthful Just Cavalli was also tasteful and classy.

So I am back, I know I know it took a long while to get me too post something, however I come with good news! At school last year my art teacher recommended I apply for the school newspaper, and this year I reminded him anticipating what he would say. Consequently I am going to be turning in a portfolio of some of my best work along with the fashion magazine I made last year on Friday for the head of the magazine or whomever has the deciding factor. It's a high school newspaper so it's huge for me, ahhh the suspense!

Anyways I have had a long and antagonizing quest for a great pair of oxfords, and I have found the most incredible (and cheap =] ) pair which makes me extremely giddy!

London is making an incredible revival, proving that it can produce immense talent to rival New York, Paris and Milan. I decided to feature the Luella show which was simply marvelous. The colors were perfect, and the patterns had the spring essence, and the clothes were very sophisticated in cut but the additional finishing touches made the collection all the more youthful.

Sitting on my Tivo is the Coco Chanel movie from the Lifetime Channel, I watched the beginning and it really is great. However if I didn't have prior knowledge of Chanel's story then I wouldn't know what was going on. Tonight I suppose I will finish it.

Today Sydney, Australia was host to the first underwater fashion show. Unique isn't it? I doubt this will ever go mainstream but it was a great publicity stunt for the designer.

The most important thing in your wardrobe this coming Spring is jewels, anything big that exudes class especially costume jewelry, meaning that I need to search for the perfect accessories. This season skimping at the minimal selection of generic pieces of my dearly beloved H&M isn't accepted. Time to thrift and put effort into the accessories.

Well I have two tests to study for so I will write again tomorrow, hopefully with a more interesting selection of contents.

So long time no writing. Sorry! School started and is going better than ever, believe me everything is going great! Almost too good to be true really. Ok I can't bore people with my 8th grade social life any longer, I must talk about FASHION WEEK!

Marc Jacobs provided us with a too near too perfect collection. I was enticed by the patterns and material, all decadent and put together in such a beautiful way.

I don't really care what anyone says I love Jonathan Saunder's work this season, there has been better for him, but I love the sharp masculinity softened with brilliant color. However I did feel parts of it was trapped in between a traveling circus and Balenciaga last Spring.

Again with Nicole Miller I was concentrated on the bold prints on the materials that I would love to own. I thoroughly enjoyed the collection, although normally she doesn't strike the right cord with me. Maybe it is because I found out that my mother knows one of her financial backers? Either way stunning but with a few mishaps.

TSE's show was classy as always and simply divine. I also noticed a diverse range of models, which was exciting to see (Woops sorry I put two of the same model! ) !

That's all thus far (we still have another forever to go) that has sparked my attention, but I am incredibly excited. Also I would have included Proenza Shouler, but I completely forgot and they have been getting too much press anyways (with good reason!) ! Try to expect a post tomorrow I am going to try to do something!

This was just what I needed to cheer myself up instead of sobbing over the fact that the Summer's over and I have no clue what to wear tomorrow on my first day back at school.I am indeed convinced that Erdem Moralioglu is a genius.

Eighth grade, my last year before high school and I have no idea what to expect.ooo but i did indeed get glasses (only for when reading things from a distance and such) AND I got a new schoolbag, but right now I have to finish my last Summer report so, I'll save that for tomorrow along with any shocking news. Hello. Soo I am going shopping today with some friends (yes I have friends), which is fabulous because I need some retail therapy before school. However unlike most, I really don't go back to school shopping, I'll do major shopping at some point in late September or October.

Anywhoo collaborations are coming from everywhere.

Jonathan Saunders, the incredible Scottish designer is now collaborating with Target. Giving me the motivation to actually go to Target considering I have loved Saunders for a long time now, and this is a perfect (cheap) opportunity to support him.

This slideshow/article was actually incredibly interesting featuring Alexander McQueen for Puma, the highly anticipated Collete X Gap collaboration, and Comme des Garcons for H&M.

And then there's the matter of Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons creating a one of a kind collection of bags for Louis Vuitton.

This collection screams Comme des Garcons, so in that essence it remains true to Kawakubo's style and remains classy as well as structurally unique. All in all I don't see this collaboration having the popularity as the recent Richard Prince collection.

The Daily News has put out a list of the 50 most powerful in Fashion. Topping the list is Anna Wintour which is definitely deserved and second is Patrick Robinson - you know the man who made the Gap cool again- yes well he also made it BEFORE Marc Jacobs... Hmm... maybe not the best choice there.

Hey! I'm in a good mood today, and I haven't got a clue why. Anyways WWD has helped me figure out what I need this coming season -thus far.

1. Neuteral colored knee highs and tights (no more J. Crew knee high argyles and colored opaque tights!)

2. Incredibly light blue jeans (not acid wash mind you).

3. Dull colored slouchy dresses. (I guess it's a bright shoe season?)

That's all I got from scanning the fashion section. Not bad, sounds very chic. Not saying that I won't slip into my dark wash skinxny jean

Felt like a hipster granny today in my vintage sweater and necklaces. Honestly I would love to raid my nana or grandma's old closet.

Then there is the story of "the sweater" - oh it's love- $50 for my Moschino Cheap & Chic sweater pictured above. I love the embroidery, oh my my do I.

Anyways the necklaces I adore just as much, if my mom let's me use them after she sees I took them. They were my great great grandmother's and my mother has a box full of the gorgeous things, gorgeousness in a box I tell you.

Heyyy. It's so nice being able to update my blog daily again! Anyways I am almost done with summer reading (yay)! Hmmm what else...nothing really. See how bland my life can get? Anywaysss I have been acknowledging those rolled cuff boyfriend jeans everyones been raving about so I tried it out.

Soo... what do we think of boyfriend (roll cuff mind you) jeans??? I minimized accessories focusing "the jeans". Actually they're just a part of my mom's old jeans that i took. Hehe.

That's the inspiration, much more historic and high fashion but still somehow connected to my humble jean experience. However it's so comfortable and I mean it looks better than I thought, so I'm totally going to be doing this again.

Well the olympics are over *tear tear* but the closing ceremonies were fantastic even if I didn't watch them and just saw the photos this morning. The days are getting so much shorter because school starts soon (September 4th for me) and I'm just terribly nervous for I don't know what. Right now I'm just trying to get past the 5th page of Lord of the Flies, I need to read it in like a day and it's definitely not a short read. Not to say it's not good literature of course.

So I dug up some pictures from the Tokyo, Moscow, and Australian runways to post since they have gone unacknowledged.

This specific show in Tokyo was from the Kera fashion show, and

is extremely goth as anyone could very well see. Though simple things taken from the ensembles could be pieces like the tights with the spades an

d clubs and the extravagant pink headband.

Moscow

Sorry the picture quality is horrid. Anways these two structurally and creatively stood out. They are both by Natasha Glazkova, and even though they were shown in March of 08 I just thought that these pieces exude high fashion (well mostly the second one with the top).

Sydney ( Oh my Goddness that's my name!)

Again another unacknowledged but interesting runway to study. Zimmerman made some beautiful bathing suits, that are girly and feminine but overall seemed a bit bland. Kate Sylvester's designs were extremely impressive and she used so many different textures, it was simply marvelous.

Hey - I'm Baaaack! Long story short my old laptop blew and I got a new Macbook =] (snaps for me!). So sorry for the delay but I'm back in action now.

Fabric

Soo I went to the fabric store the other day, and found some great fabric. Without even

realizing it I was picking out 50's inspired materials. I am planning on making a pencil skirt

from some of the wool and a shorter fitted skirt with the other wool and the blue houndstooth

will be a dress (of course once finished there will be photos!) Also the fabrics I bought are

shown up at the top.

School Bag Dilemmas

I've never really used a backpack and now I've seen this neon North Face backpack that's

not even available online so I am going to try to take a picture in the store (hehe) and I love it

but I am not completely sold, and I don't want to look like EVERY SINGLE OTHER GIRL AT

SCHOOL. Well the search will continue!

This article from the New York Post was very interesting to me. To sum it up the Post explains how fashion is

beginning to resemble that of the 30's in the great depression, showing that maybe fashion is more than mere

vanity. Those oxfords that everyone has been coveting along with the pinistripe vests, and baggy pants were

staples for the depression era newsboy. Honestly the article tells the story better than me so read it! =]

project runway

I am not too thrilled with this season's Project Runway. It seems like they are trying to create another Christian in Blaine with his failed phrase, "Girlicious". My favorite thus far is Suede, probably because he is one of the people with the most camera time and you never see half the contestants, but his designs are impeccable.

New York City is calling me, I want to go Wednesday, I NEED to go!!! There is just too much

into my head after this. I just had a cousin and her friend from Ireland stay with me and it was

I also am debating on a haircut. After envying Tavi's haircut I can't help but desire to change things up for me! Woah. This "fellow" was the spotlight of the recent Vivienne Westwood show. So the fashion industry is open to this rather interesting looking man, (Sergio Lo Re) but not to other races and plus sizes. I don't understand at all. Everyone is raving about him.

The long week is over everyone! Yay! Anyways my life has been excruciatingly boring lately so ramblings might not be the best thing for my readers to hear but I will go on anyways.

So last night there was a school dance, yes, and I wore a simple jersey dress while every other girl was wearing shorts that could barely qualify as shorts and the tiniest of tank tops (except me and my friends haha). Well the dance was fairly boring actually considering that the teachers were nearly everywhere.

Well the outfit post is actually from like two days ago but I couldn't find my camera so I didnt put them on! Whoops!

Today me and some other people are going to a parade and then SHOPPING! Hooorrrayyy! I will try to post some photos if they let me! : -P

Oh and I am trying so hard to begin sewing well, and I am trying to make some shirts like Amy Tangerine's except with modern influences, and NEON THREAD!!! Which I will also try to put photos of up here once I finish (or begin) them.

So my Summer plans are so messed up, it sounds like I am going to Ireland for 2 weeks (which is shorter than usual) and then tennis camp, but honestly I have no idea. Either way I will be blogging where ever I am.

Hey readers! I have taken forever (seriously it seems like it) to post! Anyways my internet has been so slow recently because my provider isn't responding well to the heat AGH!
Anyways this past weekend I went shopping with my friend (yes, I have friends I just never talk about this!). And we went pretty much everywhere, and I got those J.Crew jellies that I mentioned before, gazed at the Marc Jacobs oxfords in Barney's the next day, and got some awesome nail polish and wallet at Urban Outfitters. The nail polish is awesome! So bright and happy, it keeps me happy even when I have stupid finals :-(. The wallet is so cute, I wish it were bigger and a clutch!
To explain the photo I am eating something, actually it was one of the best peanut butter cookies EVER. The lighting and background was just too perfect!

Just a tidbit of fashion news, Karl Lagerfeld is really milking the Chanel logo, and it is becoming a bit ridiculous. People at Chanel have decided that it would be a good idea to sell fly fishing rods. I don't know what they want out of this, because I really don't have a clue who is going to buy this, especially for around $18,000 dollars!

Christian Dior Fall '08

alliano brought back many vintage trends in the latest Dior Fall collection. From 60’s inspired simple cuts, and space age metallics to 50’s prom dresses adorned with bows. The sequins and sparkle could have easily been overdone, but Galliano steered clear of any disaster of the sort, reminisced to the Courrèges ages. Metallic and floral were scattered tastefully as the background to beautifully decorated pieces. There was however several mishaps such as a circular, mod pattern used in a gown that looked poorly crafted. From this collection I foresee many trends, such as a return to the 60’s way of dress, as well as reshaped skirt suits.

I have a propostition for myself this summer...

Keep flip-flop wearing to a minimum.

Intimidating! I am definitely up for this challenge, because it will let me explore some more creative options for summer footwear. All the while, what girl can give up flip flops... I may have to make an exception for going to the beach, because flip flops are the beach necessity.

Sooo... I am going to have to find replacements for those over loved garments... Which is the difficult part.

I am just going to point out the shoes I am completely devoted to right now! (But don't currently have... )

Sadly this is the biggest picture (sorry guys), but I love these. Honestly I just want some good oxfords, that don't look like some college professor lived in them. I prefer these MJ ones because of the detailing, and the quality that I expect from MJ, but I am going to end up searching for oxfords everywhere. African Way of Dress

After going to a Nigerian event Saturday I have been fascinated with African clothing. The way people dress up and take pride in what they wear is an example for all of us.
The colors, and prints dazzle me, and to think they make their own dyes, and intricately make everything. I could probably praise their clothing forever.

It shows that here in America, alot of us take advantage of having mass produced madness and some of us don't take the time to be creative. Well I can't change the world!

All of this reminds me of Kenzo, who incorperated African traditions into his designs, as well as having many other exotic Asian influences. Right now I am reading a book on Kenzo, and he proves to be very interesting.

Hey readers!!! I am oh so sorry I couldn't post....like ever... but I have been incredibly busy!!! I am going to try to do another post today if I can!

There is a large change of plans for the summer. Since my grandmother isn't feeling to great, and needs operation, we are staying nearby. However I will still be at tennis camp for around 3 weeks, and those occasional trips to NYC.

I am counting down the days till school is out, which seems like a billion light years away. I get out June 24th probably the longest they can hold you.

Chloe Fall '08

Chloe strayed away from the California cool apparatus image it was given with creative pieces. The collection had more “figurative fashion” as I like to say. That is fashion that isn’t to be taken so seriously, but should be put together creatively and it is unrealistic in it’s runway form. This afterall is most fashion, but certainly not all. The Fall ’08 collection stayed in the world of navy blues completely, which made the actual designs incredibly individual and thought out. The shoes caught my attention. Some turquoise booties and grey pumps with roses encircling the angle were simply divine. Overall Chloe had proven to be more sophisticated and has moved higher up in my book for the versatility, evident in this show.

As every Chanel collection Fall ’08 contained a bit of nostalgia referring back to Coco’s original designs. Keeping with tradition tweed, and skirt suits were embellished with imperfections such as rips or interesting or inventive colors. The nerdy librarian look gets a drastic transformation with bursts of color while remaining the oversized rimmed eyeglasses. At times a bit standard and expected, but with plastic transparent jackets with cut out designs, your eyes only wander!

Nice belt?...

Just walking home... and one of the wonders of the city startles me... A BULLET BELT! I was mortified! Don't get me wrong I am all for "interesting" and daring fashion statements... but it was pretty intense, and scary! When some random lady asked if the bullets were able to be shot by a gun, he shrugged him arms and said that he thought they weren't live! People apparently get these fantastic? belts online...

Why Are Us Americans always the last one's to know!

Soo, it has taken long enough for the Welsh Singer/Songwriter, Duffy to come to the US. Thank God she did. Her blissful melodies match her gorgeous sixties look! That I love love love! I think her look is so classy. She kind of reminds me of Betty Catroux who I earlier blogged about. Which makes her all the more fantastic in my book!

She is a better 60's icon than the infamous Amy Winehouse. Although Winehouse has pure talent it is wasted (pun!) by her "drunken and foolish ways"!

If you come across her album play the song Delayed Devotion... it is my favorite!

So another distressed teen blaming the fashion industry for her problems with anorexia, great. What's different is Ali Michael wants to get this story EVERYWHERE. Every page I turn Ali Michael is unavoidable!

"...teen diet of fast food and junk. But when I began working with my agency in New York, I was told to lose more. It started out with me just being aware of my caloric intake, and eventually becoming a vegetarian. But before long, I had become obsessed with slimming down.If you think about it, a lot of models are so young when they get started, and they're basically being taught that their whole self-worth is measured in how big their waists are. Of course, there are some models who are just very thin. Most of the ones I know have some kind of issue with food, though." (Taken from Teen Vogue)

If you read between the lines and watch clips of her on talk shows you can see that she is trying to blame the fashion industry for this mess. However she was told to loose alot of weight but if she really didn't want this future I think she would have known the outcome.

Here's my opinion, I am glad she is speaking out about this growing problem, but whatever you do don't blame anyone else. The industry is in many ways vain, self-centered, etc. but the industry isn't forcing you to do anything. Walk out if it's not your kind of life, stay in if you want. I applaud Ali Michael overall though, but this story is getting to be a bit overexpose and dare I say cliche.

Yes it is the new Beverly Hills Rodeo Drive Miu Miu store! Another reason to envy the west coast but hey we've got NYC all is fair. I have been a huge fan of Miu Miu lately for the simple reason that it doesn't completely mimic it's parent Prada and is young, fresh and colorful. Looking at the photos makes me want to run into that store and take everything!

You either like it or you don't. This is the new venture in fashion for Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. However unlike their previous debut with The Row, this is a younger and more affordable line. I think it is sophisticated chic, but some things are just a bit off, like the unnecessary detailing on the back of the plaid blazer. Overall I think this could be profitable endeavor for the young starlets that have come a long way from their tween fashionista days!

America's Next Top Model. A Guilty Pleasure

I won't say I am the BIGGEST fan of America's Next Top Model but I do tune in weekly to see what they have up their sleeves. One of things about the idea of the show that gets me going is that I never see the girls anywhere after the show. The only places I have seen them (other than the Cover Girl commercials only ran during the show) were Mollie-Sue in a Scott Schuman video, Adrian in her pathetic reality TV show, and Jaslene in Nylon.

This season I found a bit dull, especially since my favorite model, Katarzyna got the boot. However I do have strong opinions on the current contestants.

Whitney: I feel she is getting along just because she is plus size, don't get me wrong she is beautiful and all but I don't think she has much talent. She has drive and motivation but there is nothing too special about her. In Cycle 8 another plus sized Whitney was featured and I was impressed by her but not THIS Whitney.

~Looks at bit dead to me

~She looks a bit out of it and doesn't look like she understood the artistic element.

~ From the beginning she didn't come off that attractive but I will give the fact that at first she seemed experienced

Fatima: I think Fatima is gorgeous, no doubt about it, she is reminiscent of Iman how could she not be beautiful. However she does seem a bit dazed, and doesn't take directions all that well. She has always been one of my favorites though because she brings high fashion to a lot of shoots.

~At first glance she was beautiful but I didn't know if she would really make it too far.

~So graceful, I didn't think anyone could truly pull of this photo shoot.

~She didn't amaze me here, she was pretty, but didn't seem like a professional model.

Anya: By far my favorite in the top three and pick to win. Her look is unique and individual and as is she (well, a bit of a ditz but oh well). She can model and isn't that what this competition is all about. The one drawback is her voice which is incredibly obnoxious at times but I can definitely look past that.

~ Beautiful and very artsy, a new look for ANTM

~Old Hollywood glamour returns and she is show stopping.

And the winner of the fashion award for the American National Design awards is .... Ralph Rucci! Since 1994 Rucci has been creating sophisticated and chic clothes for women. Fyi :The name of his actual line is Chado Ralph Rucci. He is no newcomer to the awards scene twice has he been nominated for CFDA Designer of the Year. He beat out Zac Posen and Thom Browne for his current title, which is immensely impressive. Hopefully this will give him a bit more recognition!

Target at Barneys... Two Different Worlds Collide.

Is this even possible... apparently yes. Not the best idea on Barney's part but the people at Barney's decided it would be a brilliant idea to place $250 jeans next to $28 jeans by the same designer. This brings me back to the problem Gucci had while selling there classic loafers for very very cheap and all of the working class people would hoard into the stores among the elite buying thousands worth in bags and jewels. Gucci ended up having to make a separate store for there cheaper shoes just to accommodate both classes.

Which brings me to the legacy Barney Pressman left to his sons, one of which took to the liberty to turn Barney's into the most luxurious store in New York... if only he could see this. This might help sales for ONE weekend but looking at the big picture this isn't an ingenious idea.

I can't imagine the typical Barney's shopper being too pleased with this proposition. But whether we like it or not it is happening this weekend.

Okay I didn't explain at all what this is! Basically Rogan, who sells his high end line at Barney's, is doing a line for Target premiering NEXT weekend at Target but THIS weekend at Barney's.

So are you keen on this idea? Are you going to go to a once in a lifetime chance to buy something at beloved Barney's under $30?

Normally I am not much of a fan of models/actresses turning into singers because normally it is just for some more recognition but in this collaboration with the Five O' Clock Heroes, Agyness actually impressed me. When going out to play a measly game of tennis you don't expect fashion to appear, but it does, and fashion is becoming involved in every sport. Clothes don't make fashion, but the effort to dress makes fashion which is now coming to athletics.

It was only natural that the tiny skirts and polos of tennis would get major facelifts. However we would have never guessed that big names like Stella McCartney and Karl Lagerfeld (at Chanel) would jump on the bandwagon.

Why Do I Even Write About This on My Fashion Blog... Oh Well

Scandals, scandals... Miley Cyrus... Only brings one thing to mind currently... the

proclaimed pop princess's latest photoshoot with Annie Leibovitz. This is a hard subject to

tackle for the simple reason that there are several ways to take this. Apparently Cyrus was

wearing some sort of silk stole, but to me it looks like simply a towel. Lack of style

(fashion wise) often comes with lack of clothes (Yes! I mentioned fashion in this topic!). For

me I like to believe that the intent wasn't to be provacative or that the clothing chosen was

misinterpreted from the pictures because my sister adores this girl. Only 7 how is my sister

supposed to know that her favorite "idols" are out having kids (when they still are kids), and

allowing themselves to be so exposed at a young age.

Hello my awesome readers! I am sooo sorry I couldn't post sooner! Anyways I will be back in full force this week! Other than the fact I have 3 tests and public speaking already planned I think I can manage an extra bit of blogging!

Obama, Clinton, McCain... Do any of them really have good taste? Not Really... Does it matter? No

Well, after reading article upon article on the candidate's fashion senses I still don't see any leader in the race to a fashionable outfit. But it really doesn't matter, I mean I love fashion and all, but this is the President of the United States of America... With that said I will go on.

So I was reading The Cut Blog on NY Mag and I couldn't help but wonder how they could compliment Obama's boring tie collection and say that the collection isn't average and is nicely textured. What! My dad has some of the same ties and I wouldn't call him incredibly chic.

McCain wears the typical khakis or suit and tie, and there isn't much anywhere about what he wears, because well, it is boring (as is everyone else's attire...). However Hillary Clinton has been getting bad reviews on her pantsuits, which might not be the best choice, but I think they look fine. Boring and matchy... typical but I wouldn't say you could fault her too much. I would never call her the next Jackie O. though.

Everyone should have seen The Devil Wears Prada and there is now a new real life "Andy". We don't know much about her (other than the fact that millions of girls - and guys- are now pulling there hair out knowing she took "the job") but it is known that she was a buyer at a boutique and used to work in public relations before her promotion. All Black Italian Vogue- Yes it's true! And Revolutionary! Jourdan Dunn Trys to Put the Spotlight on Asian, Hispanic, and Black Beauties as Well

I, being Caucasian probably don't understand as well as others the lack of ethnic models, but I can see the disrespect often given to those communities in fashion. The idea of an all black issue of Italian Vogue boggles the mind but it is like a fantasy for many. I am estatic for those who may be discovered that otherwise would be neglected. Jourdan Dunn is an amazing model ( the first since Naomi in 1997 to walk the Pradashow) who is inspiratoinal. She at only 17 is compared to Naomi Campbell and is talking about creating an agency for minorities in the fashion world. Although we are not near the end of this struggle with possible racism in fashion it is good to take actions like this upcoming mag towards a better future!

Agh business talk... heard enough around my house, but it this time my rant does pertain to fashion. How in the world are brands like Tory Burch and Coach which are relatively moderate priced labels so sucessful lately. According to WWD they are both surging. This may be a sign for the near future and hopefully temporary result of economic crisis in fashion. I think that the big names like Chanel, Fendi, and Prada etc. that are doing well are influencing the more moderate priced labels to step up their game and stay safe during this market crash (or soon to be). Well, it is no good for normal people like me, but for Reed and Tory, it is good news. Coach's tried transition to the top of fashion has been apparent with Kakaroff creating new color schemes appealing to a more mature crowd and more luxurious materials. Burch with her signature shoes and tunics seems to easily be making the transition as well.

- As long as they steer clear of the infamous branded to death Coach bags then Coach should continue on the right track. ( Photo- Coach.com)

This came across the Yves and he claimed her his muse, but of course he wouldn't be the only one to love her. Nails, Nails, Nails- New set of colors !

For Spring and Summer we can get very feminine with our nails! Gold: Chanel's gold collection won't be out until August, get a head start and load up on the gold. (WWD)

Melon: Melon colors are being seen on celebrities and fashionistas alike giving us another option for Spring. (Bella Sugar)

Pink Flamingo: This flamingo hue has been heating up the runways and has been a hit with the critics. (All Lacquered Up)

As for me I will most definitely buy all of them, but find cheaper ones ! I recommend just the standard Sephora brand polish, it works just as well as my Chanel polishes and it's around $4 a lacquer!

When I first dressed myself I thought everything had to perfectly match, now however that rule doesn't apply, but that immaturity in dress crept up on me from a comment from a peer. First of all I will say, my school is not one for the fine art of fashion, they probably should give some people a few tips, and with that said I proceed... A girl in my class while the teacher was out noticed my olive green jeans with my bright pink cable net sweater, and distinctively pointed out and said to me, something along the lines of pink doesn't match with green. I simply replied with something similar to "what if I can make it", to that she simply looked again and said I didn't know about fashion. This pissed me off, I am not one to get mad, but you don't say that to me, I dropped names and hoped she'd back off it. Nope. I handed her the URL for Fashion Girl and I asked her what she would think then, and she said wasn't impressed after just looking at the URL. Well that was a great way to end my Thursday.... not really but I am certainly not going to do anything to her for it, I will remain respectful.

Imagine a chic girl walking along the streets of New York with an intense yet soft look that shivers your spine, she was wearing a Celine dress from the Fall ’08 Collection. Layers of decadent materials, in simple shapes and forms, surround this season’s Celine collection. Neutrals are used liberally while bursts of color are only occasional, but every grey or black gown to appear has a different apparatus. I cannot even get over the talent he beholds. It's a bit similar to a softer, gentler, and more formal Jaocbs with a whisk of youth, and wit. Elegance takes center stage, and Victorian influences are evident under the surface. I cannot wait for the line to take the public eye (which it hopefully will) and stun us all!

Today I made an eventful ( per-say...) trip to the library. I found numerous books, but only took out some. All pertain to fashion or else I would NEVER bore you with my lazy Sunday plans!

1. The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara Gay Forden- This book inticed me because of the mysteries surrounding Maurizio's death, which I was interested in, and an depth look at the revolution that Tom Ford created.

2. D.V. by Diana Vreeland- I just had to. She is an icon, and I wanted to delve deeper into how she became so iconic.

3. The Beautiful Fall: Lagerfeld, Saint Laurent, and Glorious Excess in 1970's Paris by Alicia Drake. This book is first on my list, the idea of a summary of one of the most exciting times during fashion fascinated me!

4. Diana by Diane Von Furstenberg- to tell you the truth I picked this one up by accident and was actually going for a Sonia Rykiel book next to it but I am excited to find out if the book is good.

Ever since Coco Chanel's No. 5 perfume, it has been all the range for designers to set up deals with cosmetics makers to make their patented scent. However rarely do many of the perfumes actually smell good. And then there are the many that aren't relevant to the designers preferences and are simply put out as ways to make money and endorse the clothes, because aren't the clothes what it's all about. Although a good way to endorse the clothes, the perfumes are often highly overrated. But of course classics like YSL's Opium, and Chanel No. 5 will always attract buyers for their seductive scent.

Review for the Carolina Herrera Fall '08 Show...

In the Fall ’08 Carolina Herrera Collection it was as if it was designed for a European horseback riding princess. The colors blended impeccably and the rare trace of plaid was pleasantly tucked away, and looked very feminine while remaining a familiar masculinity. Everything was well thought out and put in place, the tailored ensembles were perfectly fitting and one 3 piece suit that consisted of a plaid cape and trouser along with a simple black vest caught my attention. The color palette seemed to be inspired by the colors of the Autumn leaves and left me with a feeling of warmth. By the end of the collection I was overwhelmed with admiration for Herrera.

"Green" Fashion is the latest thing to hit the fashion radar and in my opinion it is having a positive effect on the environment AND the fashion industry. Buzz surrounding the eco- craze can now be related to fashion. It also shows the less vain side of fashion as well!

It also seems like I am paying for having ORGANIC stamped on a bag, when I still want MY PERSONAL STYLE stamped on a bag or whatnot. Anyhow it is hard to criticize this kind of cause!

Recent Prestige Magazine Interview Buzz

Karl Lagerfeld, a fashion idol is an understatement, brought up his personal life, while doing an interview with Prestige magazine, mentioning the 10 things he could do without. (See entire interview here)

Some of the things he mentioned were children, fat people and love. He completely opened up which I respect, but his ideals seemed a bit rash. Although I do have a hard time faulting him considering he is but of course Kaiser Karl! At least he isn't way to politically correct like many people these days. Obesity truly is a problem and his reasons for this belief make sense, and I can't imagine he would gag too much if he laid eyes on a child. Maybe I also feel sympathy for the all mighty Lagerfeld, because he reached his peak so early, he can only watch his empire grow (however I can't feel too bad for a guy who has nearly everything.)

This article doesn't change my feelings about Karl in the lines of fashion, but it is a bit disheartening to think that such a great man has such hateful words (or so it seems). Call me crazy but I still idolize his designs.

The Donna Karen Harassment (Over fur)

Donna Karen is a great designer, who happens to use fur, and has lately been on watch by animal rights activists. Recently the "paint panthers" went and gratified graphic bunny images at her house. This was undeniably wrong, invading someone's personal property on your own belief, who is the bigger person here? If everyone did this about something they didn't agree with, imagine the additional problems that controversial politicians and whatnot would have on top of the occasional scandal of the sort. If you really want to make an impact, you don't harass someone! That screams lawsuit. What is even more trivial is why they chose Donna Karen, rather than a designer for Marni, which includes fur in every collection or Jean Paul Gaultier who used "unsanitary fur" for a recent Fall '08 show (kept eyes, teeth, etc. in tact).

The Controversy

Many say yes some say no. I myself feel very targeted to say my opinions on the matter.I will agree that there are many schemes in the fur trade itself that make the industry less appealing. If you are getting fur from some animals it makes sense, for example leather from a

cow, your going to kill the cow anyway so why not make leather and suede. This world is all about life and death, so something or one is always going to have to get the death.

Review for the Calvin Klein Fall '08 Show...

Suave, modern, and simplistic were the first words that came to mind after seeing the Calvin Klein Fall ’08 collection. Everything from the plunging V-neck gowns, to the delicate and precious fur shrugs, were stream line in design. Forgettable though it may be, simple staples with trends that can be enhanced or hidden in years to come, were the primary pieces of the collection. The gladiator feminine chic style that appeared in some sharp shoulders and boxy cuts, were similar to those of the Balenciaga Spring ’08 collection. Many pieces that seemed stiff on the runway, could easily be transmitted into a more casual look despite the image of the collection.

Hobo- chic, whether it was or wasn’t what they were going for, was the consistent trend for the Burberry Prorsum Fall ’08 Collection. The ever present fur (presumably mink) slouching hats, made everything become more casual and added more drama. The collection seemed to flow well, and everything was extremely steady as far as theme. The gold flecks that were sported among some dresses, could prove to be the highlight of the collection, and seem to fit well in with the trends in mind for Fall. Stellar it may be, but the collection provided no extra frills or risks to reflect on, everything seemed pretty basic, other than the lavish decoratives.

Summer '08: My Plans that Might Neglect my Blog

This Summer I am going to the countryside in Ireland as I do pretty much every Summer, however the internet service isn't so great over there... so plan on expecting more like 3 posts a week rather than one a day. I will try my hardest to keep on top of things though. I will be taking pictures, concerning fashion during my travels, which will most likely be posted on Fashion Girl.

Brian Reyes’ Fall ’08 Collection is bursting at the seems with blossoming trends, and great ideas. Precise tailoring and flowing bright and dull colors were provided as a theme for the collection. Gold satin trousers, and fuchsia patterned trenches, were eye-catching and “Trafalgars” ( term coined in fashion by Christian Dior) or showstoppers . The last looks, which are usually the most brilliant and exciting, differed from that ideal, and were a bit drab, with secretary esque dresses (although very in vogue for Spring) that just didn’t strike me as in any form marvelous.

Always have I marveled at the intensity of Asian fashion, it is truly in a category of it's own. One of my friends, who is incredibly interested in the study of some of her nationality (she is partially Asian) actually brought about this topic. I didn't really think much of Tokyo, because it is only recently that it has been getting recognition and isn't quite as traditional as the couturiers of Paris, but nonetheless fabulous.

Tokyo Street Style: Incredible Unique Style

No matter how crazy or colorful the outfit is, there is something magical about the way that many people native to Tokyo dress. Their attitude is more laid back, and don't mind if something doesn't match, as long as it comes together as an amazing outfit.

The Traditional Garb

The spectacular details, and intricate patterns make kimonos and traditional dress like this all the more special. While the modern street wear in Tokyo and many other Asian cities extremely differs from their roots, they still keep with the colorful, and detailed apparatus of the garments of former centuries.

Overall the Bottega Veneta Fall ’08 Collection was a bit of a disappointment with ill fitting pieces, and seemed to be nothing special. The collection was effortless, and was barely chic. Ruching and drapery made for interesting details, but too few were the details, to be acknowledged. There were however some incredibly simple but gorgeous gowns, and ensembles that matched in their entirety.

While assigned to look for a speech, poem, or part of a book or movie to declaim, I looked through fashion biographies, and magazines, not because I am a slacker, but because that is where my passion is. For this free choice term, I was given a lot of leash to choke myself, or run around and have fun, I opted for fun. Here is the tidbit from a book (Name at the end) that I chose:

The New Camo Bag

I am always a supporter of our troops, but not necessarily camouflage, which was the influence for a new design in the Vuitton workrooms. I honestly don't know what will come of this idea, but then again anything Louis Vuitton is almost guaranteed success.

The General Baggage: Looking at Louis Vuitton

With a genius like Marc Jacobs on board as creative director, nothing could go wrong, correct, not exactly. Although Louis Vuitton is a staple, and the signature LV's are a stamp of luxury, the integrity of the luxury isn't quite perfection.

In my opinion, I think highly of Louis Vuitton, but more often than not, the primary buyers are only looking for that signature LV to elevate them to the "in" crowd, and not thinking about the witty design of a Richard Prince bag.

I think that in the near future Louis Vuitton's repuatation could be tarnished, if someone were to replace an iconic man like Marc Jacobs. New ideas like the camo, bring life to a brand like Louis, if innovative designs like this did not exist Vuitton would be like Gucci pre-Ford in a time of need.

April 3, 2008- The Murakami Party

This upcoming even is in memory of Takashi who helped Jacobs design the latest "monogramouflague" scheme. The party will be lavish as always, but is also a fight against the many counterfeit (Vuitton) bag market in large cities. Outside the venue will be host to around 10 New York style street bag vendors, with the real things in stock (genuine bags that is). Unique plan eh? Vuitton is probably one of the most counterfeited logo, and is now fighting back, full speed ahead.

The latest bag to catch my eye is this Yves Saint Laurent tote. I just finished a biography on the great Yves Saint Laurent, so lately I have been closely watching everything coming out of Yves Saint Laurent.

What is strange about this bag match up is that I am the worst at writing letters. I never respond, never, ever, because I am so internet savvy when it comes to communication. However this bag is nonetheless my pick thus far for the year, of course I will have tons more favorites until my official pick of the year is announced this one is a contender... of course!

This petite version is a little more realistic for me.

The Blumarine Fall ‘08 Collection was flowing with femininity. From soft pastels to lively animal prints, the collection opitimized familiar feminine and girly colors, that was used luxuriously. Trademarks like a classic trench or denim bellbottoms are used in modern ways, with light fabrics to create a casual and breezy look. Fur gives some pieces instant glamour, and materialized roses adorn shimmering dresses to add florals without changing the integrity of the simple idea.

This girl is gorgeous, I had stumbled upon the unfamiliar name before but I was educated on the model behind the gorgeous face in an article in "The Cut". Cato Van Ee is incredibly striking. She is a Dutch 5'9 model, and walks the Prada, and Miu Miu runways (fantastically might I add). I think she has amazing potential because there is no one else with a jaw dropping face like hers around, and her looks are extremely varied. But the question is do YOU think she could be the next Gemma Ward, or Agyness Deyn?

Lately for Spring and Fall, there has been news on sandals and socks, and heels and socks from Burberry Ads and some fashion editorials. My take is, if you can make it look as chic as Agyness Deyn does (Picture not availible) then go ahead. But we are not talking about birkenstocks, the laughing stock of fashion, but more of .....

. Yes something like that, that commands attention and (but of course it is the Burberry shoes that Agyness wears in the ads) can transform any outfit. Have fun with this trend... in moderation. I don't recommend going all out, because there are some socks that should never see daylight.

Review for the Fall'08 Biba Show...

The Biba Fall ’08 Collection was soft and feminine with sharp edges. In the beginning everything looked razor cut, which came off, rather than ultra-modern more stiff. As the show progressed more relaxed pieces, with slouched shoulders appeared. Black dresses, with short hemlines, and decoration and ruffles and such to distract you from the simple frame. The elegant dresses made up a good portion of the collection, but were average in construction, but exact in detail. The collection ended on an elegant, as well as a simplistic note.
